An Announcement of Library Expansion
The University Administration announced a plan for the expansion of the library. The new library will occupy the building presently given over to the Student Center and directly adjacent to the existing library. The school authority stated that the plan will transform the center into a library directly linked to the present library. This way, the school can vastly increase library space at a fraction of the cost of a completely new building. In particular, the school noted, the new facility will afford more shelf space as well as storage for media materials. A further benefit will be additional tables and seats available to students and faculty.
Now hear a conversation between two students.

W: Did you hear the announcement about the library expansion?
M: What’s going on?
W: The school wants to turn the Student Center into a library.
M: What?! Why? The Center is one of the most useful buildings on campus!

M: Who needs shelf space when you got computers! The school can use technology, not physical space to store all their information. You know, I could put the whole library onto my iPad, no problem. All the University needs to do is to go online and create electronic copies or digital books and thus save an entire new library in the computer. People can go to its website and download whatever they need to study.
W: Of course, the school can scan everything into PDFs and create a digital library.
M: Exactly, besides, everybody loves the Student Center. It’s a cozy and comfortable building. If they turn this place into a library, there’ll be nowhere on campus students feel comfortable to study in.
W: That’s right.
