As the shape of white dumplings is similar to that of silver ingots, eating dumplings also means good fortune in the coming year. Eating wontons represents a new start as it’s said that there was nothing in the universe at the beginning except chaos (which in Chinese has a similar pronunciation with huntun) and the universe did not have the four directions until Pan Gu created heaven and earth. People eat longevity noodles in the hope of living a long life.
