In the year of Taiyuan of the Jin Dynasty, there was a fisherman in Wulin County. One day, he was fishing in his boat along a stream, unaware of how far he had gone. Suddenly, he came upon a peach grove along either bank for several hundred of paces. It astonished the fisherman that there should be not any mixture of trees of other varieties. The grassy land was fresh and beautiful and covered with profuse falling peach petals. He went on further, intended to explore the end. At the end of the grove was the source of the stream where he found a cave in the hill. Having noticed there seemed to be a faint light, he disembarked and went into the cave. At first, the opening was so narrow that only one person was available. After dozens of steps, it became suddenly wide and bright. He saw the broad and level farmland as well as houses, pond, mulberries and bamboos. There were paths crisscrossing the fields in all directions and you can hear the crowing of cocks and the barking of dogs. The farmers were busy in the farmlands. Their dress were just like those of people outside. The aged and children all appeared to be happy and content with themselves. The people were amazed immediately seeing the fisherman. They asked the fisherman where he came from and he answered all the questions. After that, the villagers invited him to visit their homes where wine was served and chicken was killed to entertain him. Hearing the news of his coming, all the villagers came to see what happened. They told him their ancestors had come to the isolated place bringing wives and children to escape from the war in Qin Dynasty. Afterwards they never went out thus separating themselves from the outside world. They asked him which dynasty it was now as they should not know Han dynasty, not to mention Wei dynasty and Jin dynasty. The fisherman answered every question and they all sighed. Many of other villagers also invited him to their homes and feasted him with wine and food. After a few days, he decided to leave. Then the villagers said to him that he should not tell others outside about their existence.
