问题 Interpret the following passage from Chinese into English. Start interpreting at the signal and stop at the signal. You may take notes while you are listening. You will hear the passage only once. Now, let’s begin.

It’s a great pleasure for me to attend the opening ceremony of the Chinese Tea Exhibition. I want to thank the Asian House for hosting this activity as part of its efforts to increase understanding between the Chinese and British people. Tea is native to China. People began growing tea trees and drinking tea about 3, 000 years ago in China, the first country to do so in the world. Tea is regarded as the fifth major contribution China has made to the world, after paper making, printing, gunpowder, and the compass. Just like whiskey, tea was first used as a medicine. It then became a popular drink among upper-class people, before reaching ordinary families. It has become a major part of social and cultural lives of the Chinese people. Like silk and porcelain, tea opened the gate of exchanges and understanding between China and the rest of the world. It was introduced to Europe in the early 17th century. In Britain, people added milk and sugar to their tea, making what is known as "English tea". English black tea then became very popular around the world. Tea has also become an indispensable part of British social life. A British friend told me jokingly that one-third of an Englishman’s life was spent drinking tea. Facts show Britain is one of the world’s biggest tea consumers and Lipton has become the No. 1 tea brand in the world. Although China is the home of tea, it does not yet have an internationally recognized tea brand. I’m glad this exhibition will be a good opportunity for English tea drinkers to learn more about Chinese tea. I’m sure both countries will benefit a great deal from such exchanges.
