答案 Common on Huxley’s Idea about Education In all ages, when it comes to education, people always query the most valuable result of it. Thomas Henry Huxley said, "Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do things you have to do, when they ought to be done, whether you like it or not. " I totally agree with his statement with the reasons as follows. First, each student needs to choose a suitable major. Some students make the choice based on the needs of social development, while others choose specialties due to limitations of their scores. Through education, students’ learning ability and cognitive ability of things have been significantly improved. No matter they like it or not, many people still learn well and work hard in their majors. It can be seen that education will make people understand that they have the ability to do things they ought to, rather than just doing things according to their preferences. Second, everyone in the world must hold responsibilities for himself, if he wants to find a place where he can make himself fit. Therefore, in one’s lifetime, there always are some things that a person has to do whether he likes it or not. Take doing work as an example, for most people, they require a job to make a living. However, part of the work is to deal with some problems they don’t want to. And if they couldn’t handle them well, they are very likely to be fired. Fortunately, because they have acquired knowledge through education and can apply them into practice, they have the ability to solve these problems whether they like it or not. At last, they can still keep their jobs. Third, the educational system itself is built under the backdrop of the wider society, and it aims to serve the goal of social development especially in terms of economy. There is a piece of clear evidence supporting this point. As we all know, as time goes by, the majors in colleges are also various. For example, the major called computer science did not exist until the computer was invented. In fact, in China, until 1956, Harbin Industrial University began to offer the major, computer science, in order to meet the development needs of science. Thus, education endows people with the ability to adapt to social development. Because the development of society will not be guided by personal preferences, this ability can enable people to assume their social responsibilities, rather than just consider their own preferences. Based on this view, a brief conclusion can be drawn now: to a certain extent, the most valuable result of education is that it enables people to do what they should do, not just according to their preferences.
