答案 Elite Education Elite education especially emphasizes the intelligence and achievements of students. It refers to a method that aims at cultivating high-quality students and their elite consciousness. In China, there are different views on whether it is necessary for universities to carry out elite education. Some people are convinced that it is necessary to develop elite education in the stage of a universal higher education, while others hold an idea that elite education is tantamount to educational inequity. As far as I’m concerned, I quite approve of the idea that elite education is necessary. Firstly, elite education will bring about a better distribution of education resources, which sooner or later will be bound to do good to our education. China has a large number of college students. With the coming of universal stage of higher education, we will have an explosive growth of the number of college students. With such a gigantic number of students across the country, it is indeed exceedingly hard to distribute perfectly equal educational resources to everyone. And it may be better to allot the educational resources in line with the condition of different students through elite education. Only in this way, can a more favorable outcome be obtained. Secondly, elite education enables talented students to exploit their advantages to the full. As students’ abilities vary wildly, gifted and talented students do learn faster than their peers and do excel over others in some fields. If the universities mix those intelligent students with others, not only may their talents be wasted, but their extraordinary performance in class will surely impose pressure upon their classmates who may not be so lucky to enjoy such innate gifts. Hence, elite education may benefit both the intelligent and less intelligent students. Finally, the high-achieving student is a relatively small group. However, when they enter into the workplace, they may be important for the development of a country, especially in high-tech fields. If we fail to train enough elite talents, our country may encounter difficulties in the development of science and technology. As the cradle of education, schools should shoulder the responsibility of training the elite. They can cultivate those intelligent students in terms of both ability and character, enabling them to develop comprehensively. Given the above analysis, elite education can play a significant role. A conclusion can be safely draw that it is better to develop the elite education in the stage of universal higher education in China.
