答案 Extracurricular Classes Are Necessary for Chinese Students It’s no exaggeration to say that extracurricular classes have become an important part of children’s after-school lives. In view of this, not a few people claim that these lessons deprive students of the right to rest and play, and consequently do more harm than good. From my perspective, however, extracurricular classes are necessary for students in China. In the first place, extracurricular classes help students to consolidate knowledge. Extracurricular classes often arrange their classes in accordance with the specific knowledge that students should master, or with the specific skills or abilities that students should have. It is very helpful for some students. For instance, if they fail to grasp some part of knowledge in school, extracurricular classes will be convenient because these classes can meet their specific set of requirements. After all, in school, a teacher needs to face a variety of students with different levels, so sometimes, the needs of students cannot be satisfied. In addition, extracurricular classes help students to gain a high score and provide them a better atmosphere. In the context of China’s exam-oriented educational system, a high score is of great importance in accessing to a better school. Taking extracurricular tutorial classes will go a long way to achieve that result. Also, extracurricular classes often have fewer students in one classroom compared with the ones in school, which helps to build a sound atmosphere for student to concentrate their attention on learning. And with different learning centers, students can have multiple choices. For example, students who prefer a quiet place to study can go to find a quiet learning center. While some students may like a more casual atmosphere to study, they can go to another one. Although I acknowledge the importance of extracurricular classes for Chinese students, I hold that they are just a healthy supplement to regular school education. Parents should send their children to extracurricular classes according to their interests and demands instead of just following the crowd blindly. To put it in a nutshell, parents and students should cooperate with each other to plan reasonably what kind of extracurricular class needs to be taken. In this way, extracurricular tutorial classes will benefit the children rather than waste parents’ money and students’ time.
