问题    Read the following paragraphs in which five people talk about high technology. For questions 61 to 65, match the name of each speaker (61 to 65) to one of the statements (A to G) given below. Mark your answers on your ANSWER SHEET 1.
William Benson:
There can be little real doubt that the steady stream of innovations produced in the past few decades has brought great benefit to society. By virtually every measure, people are better clothed, housed, educated, and fed than they were a generation or so ago. New medical knowledge has led to the control of a host of infectious disease, transportation and communications technologies have shrunk the planet, new agricultural and industrial processes have boosted productivity to unprecedented heights.
Alexander Benny:
It seems to me that at the moment that improvements in technology are occurring at such a rate that solutions to any problems caused by new technology are always lagging behind. Computer monitors can contain up to 3.5 kg of lead and can actually be considered hazardous waste once they are no longer in use. Unfortunately, this disposal problem is not going to disappear anytime soon—in fact, it is growing by the minutes. What’s to be done with all this techno-trash ?
Brian Arthur:
You known, this problem is not new. The first man who invented fire didn’t know it could be used to burn his neighbor’s house. When inventing wheel, the inventor didn’t think about using it as a torture de vice, and the knife hasn’t been invented to make the murderer’s job easier. Maybe the real problem comes from the human nature itself?
Angela Betty:
In the past there were long periods of stability before the new invention was thought up. At times, I feel overwhelmed by our world’s technology. I often imagine a time where people washed their plates by hand, and hung clothes up to dry in the sun, and wrote letters on paper. It’s a much simpler life. I think that along with our technology comes a faster paced life, followed by faster computers, smaller cell phones, and gadgets. It’s too much for me.
Jane Healy:
There seems to be two problems, as I see it. Technology is expanding, but is not efficiently equipped to fix itself. I think there is an issue with" usability". And I also agree that as each new technological advance, there seems to be an equal counterforce that tries to take advantage. There are on-line seams, mischievous practices, on-line gambling, etc. So, what could we do to deter such things from happening? Enact tighter regulations in computer/technology use.
Now match each of the persons (61 to 65) to the appropriate statement.
Note :there are two extra statements.
                    Statements
[A] We should come up with solutions to the high-tech’s problems.
[B] People can’t live without technology.
[C] Law can prevent the abusing of technology.
[D] We would be happy too without technology.
[E] Human beings benefit a lot from technology.
[F] Technology does us more good than bad.
[G] Problems of technology arise not because of technology itself.
