The two pie charts provide information on the percentage of British students in a particular English University who could speak various languages other than English in the years 2000 and 2010. It can be seen that the highest percentage of students in both years was comprised of those whose only other language was Spanish. It is also apparent that the proportion of students without the ability to speak a foreign language had fallen dramatically by the decade. Spanish speaking British students made up 30% of the total number of British students at the university in 2000, and by 2010, this figure had risen slightly to 35%. Similarly, those who had learnt another language other than English or the ones listed, had grown noticeably from 15% to 20%, as likewise had those who spoke two foreign languages (10% to 15%). The percentage of the British students able to speak German remained constant at 10%. Meanwhile, for those who spoke no foreign language, the figure had dropped sharply from a fifth in 2000 to a tenth in 2010. Following a similar, albeit less dramatic, falling trend were those whose only other language than English was French — from 15% to 10%.
