A team of German scientists has taken pictures of an ancient fish that was thought to have died out long ago. The pictures may provide(36)important information about the development of land animals from sea(37)creatures. The ancient fish is called a solakin. Several of them were photographed(38)recently in the Indian Ocean off the southern coast of Africa.
    Scientists are(39)interested in the solakins because of their fins(鳍)or the fanlike parts of their bodies with which the fish can swim and keep their(40)balance in the water. The four fins of the solakins(41)extend from the bottom of their bodies. Scientists believe that the fins may(42)represent an early step in the development of legs for land animals.
    The German scientists worked in a small(43)submarine. They sank to about 180 meters. They made still pictures, moving pictures and video tapes of six so-lakins.(44)The pictures show some of die fish standing on their heads for up to 2 minutes. The pictures also show them swimming upside down and backwards. Scientists are interested in all the actions of the solakins.(45)They are particularly interested in seeing them use their fins the way land animals use their legs. The German scientists say the solakins do not use their fins to move along the bottom of the ocean. But they say the fins do move together.(46)This movement is common among horses and other four-legged animals but it is rare in fish.
