According to the figures given in the table, the amount of money spent on food decreased gradually, accounting for 35 percent in 2003. However, there was a rapid increase in clothing expenses, which made up 17% in 2003. In addition, the table shows an upward tendency in recreation expenses. The same was the case with other expenses. These changes can be attributed to the obvious reason that the rapid development of our national economy has resulted in the increase of family incomes, which in turn contributes to the improvement of the living standards of the people.
