答案 I’d like to describe a painting that I saw in an exhibition of the works of Salvador Dali, which was held in Shanghai Art Museum last autumn. The exhibition displayed many valuable works of Dali, among which the most famous one, The Persistence of Memory, was shown as well. I’d like to describe this painting. It’s one of the most representative works of Dali. I think the colours of the painting are very special. The artist shows great creativity in using the colours to achieve a timeless scene. The colours make the painting surreal, which is the most important feature of Dali’s works. There’re three watches in the painting and they’re all soft and melting. The melting watch is a signature of his works. According to an art critic, the soft watches represent the relativity of space and time, and Dali uses his surrealist perspective to reconceptualise the cosmic order. However, Dali denied this interpretation in an interview. He said the melting watches weren’t inspired by the Theory of Relativity held by Einstein, but by the scene of a French cheese melting in the sun. I think this is very interesting and I believe that Dali indeed got the idea from the melting cheese and the painting merely tried to show his idea of surrealism and nothing else. And this is also the reason why I really like this painting. It’s quite different from all the other paintings of his that I’ve seen before. It best represents the surrealism of Dali.
