In Paris, various cocktail and buffet parties were good opportunities for people to make friends with one another. On such occasions, strangers met, and if they were Asians, they would very deferentially offer their name cards with both of their hands to others before conversations really started. For Asians, this social protocol seemed to be indispensable. The French, however, would rarely offer their name cards. They would exchange a few pleasantries with each other, or even after a free lengthy chat, and then just walk away. The French would product their name cards only when they had found some mutually interesting topic and wish to stay ill touch with each other. They would be reluctant to hand over their name cards before conversations began.
