答案 For centuries, corporal punishment has been practiced by parents to discipline children who disobey them, fail to perform well in their studies or are too naughty. On its desirability, there exist two types of viewpoints, and both parties claim to be in the right. People who advocate corpora! punishment claim that it is the only effective method to spur children to perform better, for abstract and redundant instruction and persuasion is too much for them to understand, while corporal punishment can give them direct body sensation and the pains may remind them to behave themselves. Besides, no better methods, they believe, can discipline children effectively. However, those who hold the opposite opinion argue that corporal punishment can be attributed not only to physical pain but to heavy emotional stress. In my opinion, the disadvantages of this practice outweigh the advantages. Teachers should be more prudent and humane in treating their students. Both students and teachers should spare no efforts to develop active and proper methods in education and discipline students rather than impose corporal punishment on them.
