In recent years, in order to help children from countryside to fulfill their college dreams, several rounds of "Project of Realizing a Dream" are launched across China. Quite many disadvantaged kids from countryside are blessed by this project and admitted to college. However, in the process of selecting college candidates, some universities go an "extra mile" to make the requirement more stringent. For example, rural students whose families have no college graduates in the past THREE generations are prioritized in the list. What do you think of this "extra" requirement? Is it fair or reasonable? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

Equal Chance Should Be Given For many rural students, going to college is still a far-fetching dream. In this case, it is no doubt a good decision for Chinese universities to launch the "Project of Realizing a Dream", because more rural students will have access to colleges. However, it is a bit unjustified for some universities to stipulate that applicants would enjoy better chance if they come from a family with no college graduates in the past three generations. First and foremost, this requirement is highly discriminative. The purpose of the project is to help rural students across China. Thus, giving better chance to rural students whose families have no college graduates in the past three generations is unfair to rural students as a whole. Rural students themselves have been in a disadvantaged position for a long time. They do not enjoy the best educational resources and are also weaker economically. In my personal research during an educational aid program to the rural area, I have found out that almost all rural students crave for a chance to go to college and see the outside world, regardless of how many family members are college graduates. Rural students deserve a fair chance of receiving better education: not just the "poorer" or the "more needy" ones. The said requirement has made the project more like a political show rather than a heartfelt help to rural students. Additionally, this rule ignores the actual situations of rural families. Generally speaking, rural families, especially those practicing agriculture for generations, may not support their children to go to college. The reasons are two-fold: they cannot afford to support their kids; the college education does not strike them as essential to their lives. Conversely, if there have already been university graduates in the family, parents would have a better perspective. They may have realized the benefits of going to university and therefore are more eager to support their kid’s decision to pursue study in college. The said rule would apparently become an obstacle for some rural students since it is wrongly presumed that those rural families with no university graduates are the ones most in need. Such rule based on blind speculation would be obviously not practical. To conclude, the requirement of "no college students in three generations" is a shallow and unpractical one which is against the objective of "Project of Realizing a Dream" and ignorant of rural students’ actual situations.
