There are about 2,500,000 couples reporting manages in the U. 5. A. every year. The marriage rate in 1994 was 10. 5 per 1,000 people. Of 2,487,000 marriages in 1994, about 1,115,000 were unsuccessful. The divorce rate in the U. S. is so high that it produces a large number of one-parent families and causes serious social problems.
