Why does the man want to postpone the project?

M: I know you are keen to expand our warehouse, but I’m afraid we’re going to have to delay doing that until next year. I’ve just checked the company finances, and we don’t have enough to pay the contractors.
W: That’s terrible news. I knew we’d suffered some losses recently, but I didn’t know things were so dire. I’ll bring this to the attention of the shareholders at Thursday’s meeting.
M: Good idea. They need to know what kind of state the company is in. Would you like me to prepare a document to pass around?
W: That would go down well. I’m sure the directors would prefer to have a hard copy of the figures.
