The public are aware that energy saving is rising in China, exemplified by impressive sales of electric bikes employing technology similar to that in hybrid cars. However, mainstream media in China have started to question the negative effects of cheap and trendy electric bikes that are powered by big lead batteries. Some people have proposed that, as a means of transportation, electric bikes are such harmful inventions that they should be banned in cities, and that bike-sharing should be promoted instead. However, some people have claimed that electric bikes are quick and convenient, and may solve such problems as logistics’ last mile problem.
What do you think are the positive or negative effects of promoting electric bikes as a means of transportation in cities? What are the possible changes that could be made to deal with rampant issues that electric bikes may bring about in Chinese cities?

Electric Bikes Should Be Promoted as a Means of Transportation in Cities There’s been an explosion of new urban transportation options in recent years. Without much warning, people have been confronted with a flurry of questions about what amounts to a new mode of transportation. Should we promote electric bikes on the street? Are they safe? What can we do to deal with rampant issues that electric bikes may bring about in our cities? From my perspective, the positive effects of the electric bike largely outweigh its negative effects, and therefore it can be promoted as a means of transportation in cities. Unlike bicycles fitted with petrol engines, electrically assisted bikes are incapable of high speeds. They are safe so far as their speed is concerned. Electric bikes handle exactly like normal bikes because the motor provides only slight traction and the rider has to pedal to keep the bike in motion. Handled in this way, they are safe and convenient. Moreover, getting from point A to point B without spending money on gas, riding e-lectric bikes is a form of environmentally-clean mobility. It is also exempt in the hope that this will encourage its popularity as acceptable alternative method of commuting which can beat traffic jams and contribute to decreasing traffic congestion and pollution. Everything must therefore be done to encourage such forms of healthy transport. As for the rampant issues that electric bikes may bring about in Chinese cities, there are two possible changes we can made. The first is to limit the number of electric bikes on the markets. Factories who produce electric bikes should formulate a strict standard. And each qualified electric bike should be check in accordance with that request list before putting it on the market. In that way the quality as well as the number is ensured. The second is to limit the number of electric bikes on the streets. The cities I think are taking the best approach are the ones that created a series of traffic rules and regulations. At least, each electric bike should have a license then it can be ride on road. From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that electric bikes are undergoing rapid development and are destined to become a popular means of transport. They have an important potential to make a significant contribution to clean and healthy mobility. It is feasible to promote electric bikes as a means of transportation in cities.
