问题
W: The book that we are going to talk about is called The Greek Gods, a Battle for Eternity. And the interesting thing about this book is that it is written in the form of a thriller. Roger, why a thriller?
M: Well, what you’ve got to remember is the Greek Gods, unlike those of previous cultures, represent people both in appearance and in character. And they mirror the kind of activities that people got up to, war, intrigue, romance and so on.
W: Perhaps you could tell me a little about some of the characters.
M: Certainly. I think most people have heard of Venus. She is perhaps the most physically attractive of the Gods.
W: She was goddess of beauty, wasn’t she?
M: Goddess of love and beauty, yes. She appears on the surface to have the most charming personality. But in fact she is rather a nasty character.
W: Very interesting. Why do you say so?
M: She is forever tempting other gods with pretty girls, and has a rather jealous nature. If she is ever rejected by a male, she is quite prepared to arrange an accident for him, usually fatal.
W: Can you explain it in detail?
M: Of course. Everyone knows Zeus, the ruler of Olympus and god of the weather. He can be rather a violent character. He is usually portrayed holding a flash of lightening which he is always ready to use on anyone who annoys him. But he is always deceived by Venus who makes him fall in love with one woman after another. Then he has to resort to all sorts of low tricks to hide the affairs from his wife.
