They fear voicing their own opinions, let alone defying the authority of teachers. This way they learn knowledge is not advisable. Students should practise a certain amount of skepticism in class. Many reasons contribute to this argument. For one thing, teachers, as human beings, are not perfect and may make mistakes. So unquestioning acceptance does great harm to students. For another, when doubts come, students will be eager to seek the truth, either by resorting to reference books or by turning to teachers for further discussions. What’s more, when they have fun in learning, their interest in what is taught will grow, as interest in the best teacher. All mentioned above tells us that students should be encouraged to adopt a skeptical attitude in class. Only by challenging the authority and developing their own ideas can students cultivate their creativity and gain academic independence.
