问题  You will now listen to part of a lecture. You will then be asked a question about it. After you hear the question, you will have 20 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.
Question: Using points and examples from the talk, explain the two physical features that help animals run fast in the lecture.
There are a large number of factors that make for the running speed of animals. This portion of the lecture will focus on two of these.
The first is tough feet that will not be affected by soil conditions and temperature. The less an animal’s feet feel, the less likely it is to be hindered by the terrain it runs over. The Cheetah of Africa affords an excellent example. This large cat lives on the veldt, or grasslands, bordering the continent’s deserts: a rocky, sandy, and very hot environment. The pads of its feet, however, are almost like leather. This means that even sands above 40 degrees C in temperature are almost not felt by the fleet feline.
Another factor affecting speed is an animal’s bone structure and muscles. Generally speaking, animals with fairly long legs are at an advantage when it comes to running speed. Again, the cheetah exemplifies this trait. The cat has hind legs slightly longer than its already long forelegs. This means the cheetah, in effect, leaps from standing still into a full run. This is a great advantage when beginning to run and, in fact, a cheetah can frequently beat some cars over a course of one hundred meters, reaching a speed of about 120 km/h in just a few seconds.

答案The lecture offers two physical features that aid some animals in attaining a high speed while running. For both of these features, the cheetah, a large wildcat of Africa, is cited. The first feature has something to do with the animal’s tough feet. Clearly, an animal subject to foot pain cannot be expected to run well in the wild. The cheetah’s foot pads are compared to leather by the lecture. These are, it is pointed out, useful in running across the hot sands and rocks of its grassland/desert environment. The other characteristic mentioned is the cheetah’s long hind legs. Since these are longer than the front legs, the animal is able to begin its runs with a leap and hit the ground at full stride. Both of these factors contribute to the cheetah’s being able to run at a speed of up to 120 km/h.
