答案 Last century has witnessed various inventions which have transformed human life such as cars, telephone, computer and so on. But in my opinion, the greatest invention in the past century is computer. The following points can well support my argument. To begin with, computers have changed man’s life and ways of work. They have made the quickest communication possible. With computers, Internet has been established all over the world. The Internet allows people to deliver their messages to any part of the world within seconds. What’s more, computers have enabled human beings to store, access and retrieve information very quickly and conveniently. For example, a large amount of data can be stored in a computer, and can be quickly processed and analyzed within seconds. Furthermore, computers have helped improve the efficiency in various offices, factories, schools, businesses and so on. For example, with a computer, an office worker can quickly handle different paper work ranging from keeping files to writing business letters. The office work which used to need two or three persons now can be done by one person with a computer. From what has been discussed above, I may reasonably reach the conclusion that computer is the most significant invention in the past century since they have enriched human life and have enhanced people’ s working efficiency.
