问题    China’s popular Internet Content Provider www.163.com will stop hosting websites for free on September 15.
University students who have websites on it will have to pay for the space or look around for the increasingly few bits of free space available elsewhere.
Many interviewed by 21st Century said they would rather pay for the service, but are urging Internet companies to try to do better.
Most students built their pages for their own interest as hobbies. Some used their websites to communicate with friends while others used them to introduce themselves, or even put the web address on their résumés.
Zhang Jian, a graduate student who tried more than 10 free Internet service providers, said the whole thing had left him unhappy. "They gave you space for free, but wouldn’t guarantee the service. Sometimes they just shut the service down without any notice. I’m fed up with them." he complained.
Some providers gave space for free to attract more customers and quality was not exactly the first concern.
Zhang Ying, who works for www.163.com, defended their new policy, "Our paying customers enjoy additional functions we offer, such as photo album and message board. We also provide 24-hour service. Our server will be more stable and reliable, with higher speed."
