No Cellphones in Classrooms In 2019, a new regulation came into effect in Shandong Province that primary and middle school students would not be allowed to use cellphones or tablets in classrooms. In my opinion, this regulation is well-grounded. First of all, the classroom is a place for learning and self-discipline, not for entertainment. Studies show that people tend to be absent-minded even when their cellphones are out of sight but in the same room. As primary and middle school students are too young to be self-controlled, they are more likely to be distracted by cellphones, inevitably leading to lower performance in classes. Secondly, playing with cellphones in the classroom will disturb the overall study atmosphere because other students will also be drawn to the sounds of games or videos. Thirdly, playing with cellphones in classes is disrespectful to teachers, which runs against the traditional value of honoring teachers. Statistics showed that about 70 percent of Chinese primary and middle school students own a cellphone. There is no denying that cellphones play an important role in their life. However, there’s no necessity for cellphones to appear on campus. Students should follow the regulations and focus on study at school.
