答案 There is no doubt that the technological advancements in recent decades have influenced, if not altogether changed, all aspects of our lives, especially our traditional cultures. Some people think that as technology develops at an unprecedented speed, traditional cultures must fade out while some others maintain that most traditional cultures can survive the impact of technology. As far as I am concerned, technology is a double-edged sword, causing some traditional cultural phenomena to die out while promoting the development of some other traditions. On the one hand, we have to admit that technology does contribute to the disappearance of some traditional cultures. Take the letterbox as an example. Due to the Internet technology, the time-honored letterbox service has lost its luster, giving place to the email service. In some places, the letterbox even becomes a cultural relic which attracts tourists to pay a visit. Here’s another example: the handmade tradition is quickly being eliminated from our lives because nearly all traditional methods of manufacturing goods have been mechanized and become mass-produced. On the other hand, we cannot afford to ignore that technology makes some traditional cultures better. A case in point is the printed book in today’s digital age. With the advance of smartphones, tablet PC, and electronic readers, e-books have grown in popularity among people in the past several years, posing a great threat to the traditional printed books. However, as we can see, e-books do not eliminate our need for printed books, but quite the contrary: they prompt the producers of printed books to look for the irreplaceable advantages of such books and bring them into full play. Therefore, now we see the peaceful coexistence of the two reading modes. Moreover, technology helps preserve and spread traditional cultures. We are now living in an age where an amount of information is expanding exponentially. Information about traditional cultures is available on the Internet with the click of a mouse, which is conducive to preserving and disseminating traditional cultures. In conclusion, technology exerts both positive and negative effects on traditional cultures. However, we do not need to feel disoriented. Instead, we should make full use of technology to promote the development of traditional cultures.
