"How did you write your advertisement?" asked one of his friends, a merchant(商人). "Here it is, "said Mr Baker.
It said, "Lost from the London Church last Sunday evening, a black umbrella. Who finds it and leaves it at No. 20 Broad Street will receive 10 pounds."
"Now," said the merchant, "the way of writing is very important. Let’s try again, and if it fails, I’ll buy you a new one."
His friend wrote, "If the man who was seen to take an umbrella from the London Church does not want to get into trouble, he will return the umbellar to No. 20 Broad Street. He is well-known."
This appeared (出现) in the newspaper, and lots of people were talking about it. The next day Mr. Baker was very surprised when he opened the front door. Because there were at least twelve umbrellas of all sizes and colours in front of the door. His umbrella was among them.
Many of them had notes. The notes said they had been taken by mistake and asked Mr. Baker not to say anything about it.
