答案
A: Most employees love to receive training for a job before they get to work. Proper training for staff creates motivation and boosts morale, thus creating devoted people in their work. So what is your suggestion about the new staff-training programme? B: I think we can give training on office equipment and company regulations for all the new staff. That would really delight them and make them feel valued. And a well training which is remembered and talked about could cultivate a distinct culture for our organisation. A: Well, I’m sure about that. Regulations must be informed to everyone to refuse serious absence and enhance a strong discipline system. Actually, I also want to recommend foreign language, for we should regulate their accents in case they communicate with some international clients. Do you think so? B: Maybe, you’ re right. But since the purpose of training is to make the employees who will service for the company, staff should probably be trained in a more practical way. Office software is a must, and it is so basic and can improve their efficiency. A: Well, you’ re reasonable. And we should consider the strength of the individual staff accordingly. Anyway, overall training is also an opportunity for the staff to get to know each other, so maybe we can let the experienced staff teach them how to use those softwares. B: Research shows that many employees are primarily motivated by good teamwork, and will dramatically improve their performance to achieve team honour. Put them into several divisions and share what they have learnt with each other. Someone will tell them what kind of good manners needed in the communication. A: OK, I agree. And benefit premium may be also a better choice. A bonus is a one-off sum and money is always a big stimulus. B: It sounds nice. So software, regulations and benefit premium are the main parts in the first programme. And we can provide more training in the future. Follow-on questions 1. Can you think of any other thing a company could do to help new staff? (Why?) The company could offer job swapping in order to make the staff acquainted with other colleagues’ situations to build up a kind of sense of understanding of each other. 2. How important do you think the benefit premium is for new staff? (Why? /Why not?) It can be regarded as the guarantee for the staff, who may be the bread-winner in the family. He needs some welfare policies to meet his sense of security. 3. What do you think are the advantages to a company of giving training to the new staff? (Why?/Why not?) Once the new staff get to know the operations of the company, they will work more efficiently than the less-trained ones. 4. Do you think training before taking the job is attractive to the employees? (Why? /Why not?) The society is full of fierce competition, training before the job will attract those who want to improve themselves. 5. Do you think the skills people learn in one company are always useful in another company? (Why?/Why not?) Well, some skills are widely-used such as communication, IT skills and so on. Yet some are quite professional and limited to some particular field.
