Moving to new methods of payment is far from an easy leap for most of us. Recent figures from the Payments Council show that many are concerned about the security of such methods. Nearly two thirds of those surveyed admitted they were worried that payments using the new technology might not be secure.
It is worth remembering, of course, that we all had the same fears about debit cards, cash machines and online banking when they were introduced, and these innovations have now become commonplace. Nonetheless, it is important to be sure about the technology that you are using before you jump in with both feet and your smartphone. The following points should help.
Know your limits. Contactless cards allow you to pay instantly by waving your card over a reader in a shop instead of entering a Pin. New technology such as the Barclays Pay Tag, which is a sticker that you can attach to your phone, and Orange’s Quick Tap app, which lets you make a purchase using your phone, allow you to cut out the card altogether. These transactions carry more risk than a transaction using a card and Pin, as they don’t rely on a second level of identification—merely on the fact you have the phone or contactless card with you. Your main safeguard is that the system can be used only for small payments—different limits apply in each case. However, even small payments add up, it is important that you know how much you are taking on and check your statements regularly.
Be app savvy. Many banks and building societies have apps you can download to your smartphone to manage your money and make payments. Online criminals are now targeting the smartphone and app market more than ever before. Apps are often developed by third-party companies rather than the banks themselves, and the organisation that developed them may also have your records. Before you install an app, check that it doesn’t store personal data and that if you bank over a Wi-Fi network your details are encrypted. Double check that an app is genuine before you install it, as it may be a rogue product trying to get at your data.
Put security measures in place. Some payment systems allow you to put extra security in place. For example, Orange’s Quick Tap allows you to put in a four-digit Pin before tapping your phone to make a payment as an additional safeguard. You should also ensure that your phone itself is protected by a Pin or password. Additional services such as BlackBerry Protect or Find My iPhone could help you to locate a lost phone and wipe all of its data if necessary. You can also download additional security software onto your phone as an app.
By using Orange’s Quick Tap app, ______.
选项
A、you will gain one more identification security
B、you have to enter a Pin before each purchase
C、you can make a purchase without using a card
D、you can get rid of all the stickers on your phone
答案
C
解析
细节题。由题目定位至第三段。该段第三句指出Orange’s Quick Tap app, which lets you make apurchase using your phone, allow you to cut out the card altogether,由此可知,使用Orange’s Quick Tapapp可以实现无卡购物,故[C]为答案。由该段第四句These transactions carry more risk than atransaction using a card and Pin,as they don’t rely on a second level of identification…排除与之含义不相符的[A]和[B];原文并未提及Orange’s Quick Tap app与stickers的关系,故排除[D]。
