答案 This issue of sex equality is one that has been debated increasingly over the past few decades. Most countries now offer women the same basic human rights as men and so the debate has moved from that to the representation of women in various areas of employment, particularly those traditionally dominated by men. Some say that women are inherently unsuited to these jobs. Others, including myself, disagree. People who think that women are unsuited for work as police officers and soldiers usually point out that women are not as physically strong as men. It is true that the body mass of the average woman is lower than that of the average man, but there are many women who can hold their own in a physical fight with a man. Just as not all men are physically strong, not all women are physically weak. Nowadays, much of the work of police officers and soldiers depends on their intellectual capabilities rather than their physical ones. In this area, women have consistently shown that they are equal to men. Skills such as leadership, the abilities to search for, find and interpret information are certainly not male preserves. To conclude, the selection of a person for a job should not be based on whether that person is male or female. People should be selected according to their personal capabilities. When selecting police officers and soldiers, a person’s physical fitness needs to be taken into account and this may result in more men being selected than women.
