May 26, Vulcan City - More than a thousand summer job-seekers are expected to attend the sixth annual Vulcan City summer job fair to be held in the Vulcan City Convention Center. The fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.
Last year, 1,500 job-seekers attended the fair, which is co-sponsored by local companies and Vulcan City Chamber of Commerce. Applicants expect to fill more than 500 seasonal job openings. About 80 employers will be represented at this year’s job fair. They will be searching for workers for Vulcan City’s tourism and hospitality industries.
Howard Barns will pack 40 resumes and put on a bright grey suit. He will go there and look for work at a job fair. Mr. Barns graduated from college last year, but he still cannot find a suitable job. Even so, he is optimistic. "I think I will meet a good employer tomorrow," said Mr. Barns, who lives in Vulcan City, "You know, I am young, and I don’t have to worry so much about my future. I think things will be better tomorrow."
The state’s unemployment rate, while still high at 6.5 percent as of March, is dropping and surveys show that confidence in the economy is growing. That’s right! Someone says "Worry is pulling tomorrow’s clouds over today’s sunshines." Keep your chin up!
