答案Making friends - Is it easier to make friends when we’re young or when we’re older? Why or why not? I think it’s easier to make friends when we’re young. We have much more chances of meeting new people when we are young. For example, we meet new people when we go to a new class, a new school or join a new club. In general, young people are more likely to try new things and take on a new hobby, which offers great opportunities of meeting new people. But when we get older, especially when we have settled down in some place, we would probably get used to a certain way of living and get used to seeing the same people everyday, so I think it’s harder to meet new people when you are older. - Where do people typically make friends? I think there are two major ways of making friends. Firstly, people typically make friends in school and workplace because people meet each other every day in these two places. The time they spend together and the common experience they have would make them friends naturally. In fact, if you think about all your friends, I bet some of them are your classmates. On the other hand, people who share a certain interest would easily make friends because they have a lot in common. A typical example is sports. People who are interested in a particular sport would easily become friends as they would spend a lot of time practicing that sport and encourage each other. - Would you like to make friends with people who are similar to you? Yes, I like making friends who are similar to me because in this way, we can enjoy lots of things together without worrying whether he/she likes it or not. This also means that we will have a lot of things to do together. For example, I like jogging a lot and I enjoy the company of a friend who likes jogging as well. On the other hand, I do think that making friends who are not similar to me would bring me lots of surprises and probably encourage me to do things I’ve never done before. But I think I’m a little old-fashioned and would like to meet people who share a similar lifestyle. Friendship in general - What impact has technology, like computers and mobile phones, had on your friendship? Well, it’s hard to say. I think technology sometimes brings my friends and me closer, especially when we are not in the same city. We can chat online or see each other’s pictures every day. So in this sense, technology brings us much closer than before, when it took weeks even months to hear from a friend through posts. On the other hand, when we meet face to face with our friends, it seems that everyone is so obsessed with their cellphones and talks much less than before. We seem to be torn apart by our phones even when we sit face to face. So sometimes I force myself to put my phone in my bag when I meet friends in order to avoid the distraction: - How do friendships change as we age? I think we do fewer things together with our friends when we age, probably because we will be working in different cities in the future. However, I believe we will consult each other when facing important choices in life and our friends will be there to support us. In addition, I think as people age, they would gradually find a way of life they like and become clear about the values they uphold to. Just as the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. This would affect their friendship as well because people would choose to be closer to the friends who share similar life values. - Why do you think certain friendship last a lifetime? I think certain friendship can last a lifetime because I believe that shared experience and empathy can bring people together. When two people become friends, they must have some shared values and common goal in life. While they support each other in realising the common goal, the friendship lasts. For example, we would easily become friends with our former classmates because we have similar experiences and backgrounds. In fact, I have become friends with a lot of my high school classmates and whenever we meet, we always have a good laugh over the shared memories. Even though we are in different cities now, I think our friendship would last a lifetime.
