You will hear five different people talking about training courses.
For each extract there are two tasks. Look at Task One. For each question 13-17, choose the course each person attended from the list A-H. Now look at Task Two. For each question 18-22 , choose the complaint each person makes about the course from the list A-H.
After you have listened once, replay the recording.
You now have thirty seconds to read the two lists.

Now listen , and do the two tasks.

Speaker One
Man: Well, I guess on the whole it was quite interesting discuss setting and meeting objectives and co-ordinating projects. It’s just that I’d hoped we’d learn more practical things like how to motivate team members and manage conflict and make team communication more effective. Anyway, the center was a long way from my home. But that in itself wasn’t really a problem. I think one day would have been more than enough. I didn’t really understand why they needed two whole days.

Speaker Two
Woman: I feel a lot more confident now—having done the course. The trainer gave us some really great tips on effective presentation. We certainly didn’t have any complaints about the price even though it was pretty expensive. But I can’t understand why they held it in New Castle. It took me half the day to get there and I was exhausted before the course even started. We really should have found somewhere closer to the office.

Speaker Three
Man: I had a great time. We did lots of role plays, mainly about delegating or dealing with interruptions, which I really enjoyed. And I think it would help me a lot. The only thing that I’d change would be the refreshments. You’d have thought they could have provided more than just a salad for lunch, wouldn’t you? It wasn’t even particularly fresh either.

Speaker Four
Woman: Originally, I’d wanted to take the effective negotiations course. But my boss told me this course would be more useful. This course has made me more confident about trying to stick up for myself. We covered a lot of stuff. But of course you can’t expect the trainer to do everything in just eight sessions, can you? So we had to miss out on some really interesting topics. I was a bit disappointed, for example, that we didn’t do anything on body language.

Speaker Five
Man: The programme itself looked really interesting. That’s why I went for this course rather than the assertiveness training one. And I guess we did have a few useful topics like writing minutes and preparing agendas. But all in all, it was really disappointing and so chaotic. Our tutor kept answering her mobile phone during the sessions and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone phoning her to tell her what to do next! Luckily, it didn’t cost too much. Otherwise we’d have been asking the center for our money back.

Now listen to the recording again.

That is the end of Part Two.
