Crying for More Girls In the present day China, the situation of gender gap must be strikingly becoming explosive. As is depicted in the thought-provoking picture, what the boys are crying out to the would-be parents just points to this important truth that, in not-too-distant future, there will be an excess of boys in the crucial years when they are searching for a mate. This, in brief, is what the drawer of this picture intends to suggest: today most parents are bound by the outdated prejudices that boys are superior to girls. Such a long-held notion is more pervasive, particularly in some poverty-stricken rural areas in China, for it is the firm belief of some parents there that they must have male offspring to support them when they will be stepping into an old age. Small wonder, great consequences follow that there arises the problem of gender gap. If the trend is allowed to persist, tensions or social problems must inevitably crop up. We sincerely wish that the boys in the picture cried more loudly that the public could be awakened to that problem.
