"Where is everyone? What’s happening? He didn’t look at me. "The bus was hit by a truck. I don’t know how many survived." The next months were a blur of tears and shock. Fifteen of the class had died and twenty were injured. In the classroom, our last year of high school passed quickly; we barely noticed. I was strange to them after that--I had escaped. I was never really one of the group again. I couldn’t know what they knew. Only later did I ask: Who made that call? I could have been on that bus too. That one telephone call changed my life for ever.
