答案 Good Writers Are Made, Not Born Jin Mei People are not born to be good writers. They became good writers for some reasons. Good writers are made by themselves or circumstances, not born. Frederick Forsyth was literally forced to become a writer. He had never written anything before his company went bankrupt. With only two pounds left, he bought a pen, some ink and paper and began to write. Five months later his book The Day of Jackel was published, and he became a popular writer. He confessed that he had been desperate at that time to make both ends meet. Editors and publishers never found the quality of a writer in Dories Lessing, who wrote Golden Notebook. She received her first rejection letter in which the editor advised her to give up writing for she lacked the quality of a writer. She laughed it off and worked harder. Only one year later did she publish a series of short stories, and embark on her way to success. In people’s eyes, James Cooper seemed to be born to ride a horse or manage a farm. In his forties, Cooper wrote for the first time just for fun. His story was so interesting that his friends sent it to a publisher. They published it and overnight he was widely known in the country. William Faulkner was not a born writer either. His father was a doctor and mother a housewife. He had received 177 rejection letters before he published his first novel. Once he said to the press, "Some publishers say that I was born to be a salesman, not a writer. If I had ever believed those words, I would never have become a writer." These comprise only a very small portion of the many writers who achieved their success the hard way. A man may be gifted in writing, but if he doesn’t even set pen to paper he will be nothing.
