答案 Are Books Still the Major Means of Acquiring Knowledge? With people spending more time surfing the Internet and touching their iPads, yet less time reading books, concerns are raised about whether books are still the major means of getting knowledge. I would argue that we can never dispense with books as the bridge to knowledge. My first reason is that books present serious and systematically organized information due to the stricter censorship in the publishing industry. This is an advantage that can never be matched by the Internet. Although the abundance of information on the Internet and the convenience of searching are always lauded by the Internet users, the authenticity will always be the major problem since everybody now can post information on it. Such being the case, the book is still a trustworthy source of information and knowledge. In addition, while reading books, people are more apt to concentrate on what is really important and have time to think critically and seriously. In contrast, the fancy audio-visual aids and the superfluous information provided by the TV and the Internet are just a fatal distraction to those who want to learn seriously. Books and other means are just there to address different needs. We rely on the Internet to update our information faster, but we need the book to undertake serious study. So books are still the main gateway to knowledge.
