A Hindu legend goes that three blind men were trying to describe an elephant. The first man, feeling its trunk, asserted: "It is like a snake." The second, trying to reach around the beast’s massive leg, argued: "No, it is like a tree." The third, feeling its powerful side, disagreed, saying: "It is more like a wall."

答案 Experience: Is It the Only Guide? Man has been curious about nature and the universe for tens of thousands of years. From this very curiosity and thirst for knowledge rose religion, philosophy and branches of natural sciences. In a small way, each of the blind men was right. But none of them was able to understand or describe the whole elephant. Each of them feels one part of the entire beast and asserts his notion of the elephant as the only interpretation, which, of course, is incomplete and ludicrous in an observer’s eye. This fable tells us that in order to understand the world we must stop looking at the world from a perspective based solely on our own experiences. In other words, we cannot rely entirely on our own experiences to give an adequate and objective description of things around us. Another lesson we can draw from this fable is that we should learn not to be too hasty to draw any conclusion. We should always keep in mind that no definite answer could be arrived at until we have made ample investigations into the matter, and that a hasty conclusion may be misguided and hence, mistaken.
