        1990年初，青基会捐款4万元，加上省、县的配套资金，建起我国第一所希望小学——金寨县希望小学。这所希望小学的落成，如一粒种子，在大别山深处“破土”。30年来，它见证了孩子们走出大山，走向希望；它改写了许多人的命运，点亮了无数梦想与未来。
        这场以“希望”为名的建校行动，30年来一直在继续，越是贫穷的地方，招牌越是闪亮。希望工程将救助贫困地区失学儿童重返校园作为根本使命，先后发起结对救助和“希望小学”建设，有效解决青少年因贫失学问题。进入新世纪之后，希望工程将资助对象扩大到高中和高校学生，将“救助”模式拓展为“救助一发展”模式。
        据青基会官网显示，截至2019年9月，全国希望工程累计接受捐款152．29亿元，资助家庭困难学生599．42万名，援建希望小学20，195所。希望工程给受助者提供的不仅是物质上的援助，更重要的是面对困境不屈服、不放弃的精神。

答案 Years ago, the 7-year-old girl Su Mingjuan from Ta-pieh Mountains was featured on a promotion poster of the Project Hope with her big eyes full of "I want to study" carving. The hometown of Su, Jinzhai County, remote and blocked, used to be one of the most poverty-stricken areas in China, where many children droped out of school because they could not afford the tuition fees. The Project Hope was initiated and implemented in 1989 by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) to ensure access to compulsory education for every school-age child. This was the first foundation in China supporting dropouts in impoverished areas. At the beginning of 1990, Jinzhai County Hope Primary School, the first of its kind in China, was built up with the help of 40,000-yuan donation from the CYDF and supporting funds from the provincial and county governments. Its inauguration, like a seed, "broke the ground" in the depths of the Ta-pieh Mountains. Over the past three decades, it has witnessed the children walking out the mountains and towards hope; it has also rewritten the fate of countless people, and illuminated countless dreams and futures. This school building campaign in the name of "hope" has been going on for 30 years, gaining more fame in poorer areas. The Project Hope regards it as a fundamental mission to help the school-age dropouts in poor areas return to school. By means of initiating pairing assistance and building Hope Primary Schools, it has solved the poverty-caused dropout problem of teenagers effectively. From the 21st century on, the Project Hope expands its funding targets to students in senior high school and higher education stages, and upgrades its "rescue" model to "rescue-development" model. According to the official website of CYDF, as of September 2019, the Project Hope all over China has received total donation of 15,229,000,000 yuan, subsidized 5,994,200 underprivileged students and assisted the construction of 20,195 Hope Primary Schools. What the Project Hope provides is not limited to material assistance, more importantly, it offers the inspiration that encourages students to never surrender nor give up in face of difficulties.
