M: Have you joined a non-profit organization?
W: Yes, I have.
M: What motivated you to join it?
W: Because I see many people are still unaware of their own environment, and in fact we are faced with a lot of destruction and depletion of resources such as air, water and soil.
M: True. I even heard that there were more and more cases of ecological collapse around.
W: Yes. Ecological collapse happens more often than ever. Some ecosystems today suffer a drastic, possibly permanent, reduction in carrying capacity for all organisms and this often results in mass extinction. A classic example is what is happening in the Amazon.
M: It is reported that forest fragmentation is serious there. So what efforts have you done to promote a healthy environment?
W: Personally, I try as much as possible not to use plastic bags. We run some campaigns to change people’s minds about a healthy environment.
M: Could you tell me more about the campaign?
W: We focus on broadcasting environmental protection ideology. We produce many posters about the harm of bad behaviour towards environment.
M: What are they then?
W: A lot of disasters caused by damaged ecosystem such as major flood, prolonged drought, climate change, erosion, and many more.
M: Is human being’s bad behaviour all covered in your campaign materials?
W: Sure. We have to admit that due to the pressures of over-consumption, population and technology, the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognized by both individuals and governments.
M: Did governments begin placing restraints on activities that cause environmental destruction?
W: Definitely. After all, we have only one earth to live on. Since the 1960s, activity of environmental movements has created awareness of the various environmental issues among many countries. People are more and more aware of the effect of their behaviour on the environment.
M: Look, I am quite interested in your campaign and I wanna do my bit to protect the environment. So do you mind if I come along next time when your non-profit organization has something to do?
W: Oh, you are more than welcome.
