问题     This section measures your ability to use writing to communicate in an academic environment. There will be two writing tasks.
For the first writing task, you will read a passage and listen to a lecture and then answer a question based on what you have read and heard. For the second writing task, you will answer a question based on your own knowledge and experience.
Now listen to the directions for the first writing task.
Integrated Writing Directions
For this task, you will first have three minutes to read a passage about an academic topic. You may take notes on the passage if you wish. The passage will then be removed and you will listen to a lecture about the same topic. While you listen, you may also take notes.
Then you will have 20 minutes to write a response to a question that asks you about the relationship between the lecture you heard and the reading passage. Try to answer the question as completely as possible using information from the reading passage and the lecture. The question does not ask you to express your personal opinion. You will be able to see the reading passage again when it is time for you to write. You may use your notes to help you answer the question.
Typically, an effective response will be 150 to 225 words long. Your response will be judged on the quality of your writing and on the completeness and accuracy of the content. If you finish your response before time is up, you may clink on Next to go on to the second writing task.
Now you will see the reading passage for three minutes. Remember it will be available to you again when you write immediately after the reading time ends. The lecture will begin, so keep your headset on until the lecture is over.
When people seek an education, they expect to receive knowledge that will help them in their future careers and in other facets of life. However, learning does not stop when someone discontinues formal education in a classroom setting. Lifelong learning is a process followed by many across this world who want to expand their knowledge and understanding of vital things, events, occupations, hobbies, and interests. As long as life lasts, they continue to learn.
It is common understanding that information learned in any setting usually lasts three to five years and then it has to be updated and upgraded. This is very true in areas such as computers, science, space, and technology where the ever-widening scope of knowledge increases rapidly. It may not be possible to keep up with this phenomenal growth of knowledge, and, therefore, one must continue learning throughout life.
Universities around the world have limited spaces for students: thus they have stringent entrance requirements. Those who cannot enter university seek to educate themselves by holding part-time jobs or by being part-time students. Others go to night classes, distance learning courses, home study courses, or through self-study books. Some dropouts might seek to continue learning after they find a job or after they raise a family. No one should be hindered from seeking an education; however, only those who earnestly look for opportunities will eventually find them.
Now listen to part of a lecture on the topic you just read about.
Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard, explain how they are related to points made in the reading.
Lifelong learning is a very important concept. It is not a new concept, however, China has been working in the area of lifelong learning for a number of years as we have in Britain. The idea of lifelong learning is that people do not only learn at school and then at university, but that to be really productive members of society, people have to continue their education throughout their lives. A recent study in Britain and the United States showed that what people called the half-life of learning is five years. In other words, of everything you learn now, only half of it will be relevant in five years’ time, which means you have to constantly renew your knowledge, renew your understanding, in order to be able to keep your skills up to the needs of the developing global society.
The whole purpose of lifelong learning is to fit people for work, for leisure, for their personal development, and their personal satisfaction. That’s a very important aim, I think. In Britain, as in China today, we went through a very difficult process of societal change. We experienced a very difficult process of change in the nature of our industry and economy. We have now made it through that successfully. Our unemployment is very low. That’s by and large because we constantly train and retrain our workers so they are able to be productive. The worst thing possible for a person is to no longer be needed. If their skills are out of date, their opportunities to find work will be not as good. If they do find work, then it’s highly possible that it will be for reduced wages. So, for us, the whole thing about lifelong learning is that individuals should be able to constantly renew their skills in order to remain productive and to enjoy their lives. Lifelong learning never stops.

答案Lifelong learning is considered as a characteristic of the age. One of the issues that the information age has put to the forefront is that it is no longer enough to learn new things. Several years ago, people often worked for the same job from graduation till retirement. Today, however, it is common for people to change jobs and learn new things constantly even after they start working. Everybody has to learn new things all the time. Lifelong learning is important for people so that they can keep up with the fast changing world. Generally speaking, people seeking an education expect to receive knowledge that will help them in their future careers and life. In today’s world of constant innovation, people will never stop learning. They must learn new and valuable things through lifelong learning so that they won’t fail behind in the competitive job market. This is especially true in such areas as computer, science, and technology. Lifelong learning is followed by people who would like to broaden their horizons in vital things, events, occupations, hobbies, and interests and so on. Besides, each one of us needs to have good study habits in and right attitudes towards learning and to develop learning skills and learn how to learn. As the saying goes "never too old to learn", people continue to learn so long as life lasts.
