Museums in general - Would you like to visit museums? Why or why not? As I mention just now, I usually go to museums in different cities and I’d like to visit museums more often. I still remember the first time I went to museums was at my age of 9. I felt so excited as I saw so many antique and interesting relics which I never saw before. Undoubtedly visiting museums can broaden one’s horizons. Besides, appreciating master’s work is beneficial to our aesthetic taste. So I strongly believe that visiting museums is one of the best educational experiences in our life. - What type of museum is popular in your country? As we all know, China has a really important and abundant culture with a long history of 5,000 years, so there are numerous museums throughout the country. Archaeological and folklore museums are the most common kinds and those are visited by the majority of people. Apart from these, biographical, ethnographic and historic museums are also really common in our country. Furthermore, there are art museums and galleries and some other that are about industry, science and technology. - Do you think museums should offer free admission to everyone? It is a quite controversial questioa But I stand by free admission policy as museums should be free community resources. For one thing, the mainly purpose of museums is to provide an educational and cultural experience to visitors. And it’s museums’ responsibility to make sure their offerings are accessible to all. For another, I don’t think museums are for-profit entertainment because there are support mechanisms such as government grant programmes for the art, private donations and so on. The importance and development of Museums - What do you think of the importance of museums in history? I think museums are of great importance and constitute an integral part of a country’s history. As it is known, these constructions provide information about culture and heritage; in other words, museums keep history alive. To be more precise, museums include artifacts and different objects from the past and by placing them there, people are reassured that the items they see provide clear and accurate information about the history, rather than reading books and magazines in which most of the details are subjective and theoretical - What’s the difference between the museums nowadays and in the past? Anyone who pays a visit to museums could say that nowadays museums are more beautiful, modern, have a rich collection, and convenient to visit than in the past In the past, only a few people had access to them but these days they are open spaces for public knowledge. Furthermore, much attention is given to the maintenance of the museums now than the past and most of the museums are renovated not only for their preservation but also to attract more public interest - How do you think of the heritage of a country? I think a heritage of a nation isn’t determined by only one thing. Monuments, sculptures and temples are essential and they are representative examples as far as heritage is concerned. History composes an important part as well, by informing people about the achievements and failures of a territory. Last but not least, museums which we were talking about earlier couldn’t be missing from this list, not only for all the important aspects they have but also because they are connected with the beauty and grandeur of a country.
