The head of the United Nations food agency has called for coordinated action by the world’s richest countries to ease worries about rising food crisis. He said the owners were on the G20 because they produce about 90% of the crops worst affected by price rises.
The conference has also urged to help reduce food wastage. Delegates to the conference in Sweden were told that about a quarter of the food were produced worldwide never reaches our plates. This increases the prices we pay in the shops and puts unnecessary pressure on land and water supplies. The way food is wasted varies. In richer countries, consumers expect their food to look so perfect that slightly blemished though perfectly nutritious food and vegetables never reach the supermarkets: in poorer developing countries, most of the waste is on farms.

At least 40 Egyptians believed to be illegal immigrants heading for Europe are feared drown after their boat sank off the coast of neighboring Libya. One of those on the boat survived to raise the alert. Egypt launched a major search and rescue operation. An official said that five more survivors had been pulled from the water as well as three bodies.
The fishing boat was close to the maritime border between Egypt and Libya. Those on board are thought to have been headed for Europe. That’s also possible they could have been looking for work in Libya itself. Since the fall of Colonel Gaddafi, Libya has demanded visas for the many Egyptians looking for work in the country.

The UN Nuclear Watchdog says Iran has greatly increased its capacity to enrich uranium, it might have fortified underground site. The agency also accused Iran of hampering efforts to investigate whether another site to have been used to develop nuclear weapons. The Nuclear Watchdog says in the past three months Iran has more than double the number of uranium enriching centrifuges in its underground bank known as Fordo. That’s in defiant of United Nations resolutions and pressure from Israel and the United States.
The Agency also complains that Iran has dismissed its concerns about the Parchin military site, where it says recent satellite images show a shroud over a containment vessel where explosives may have been tested. Power lines and roads have been removed from the site in what the IAEA suspects it’s a clean up operation designed to hide previous nuclear activities.
   【R4】______
The Chairman of the U. S. Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke has described the America’s economic situation as far from satisfactory. Mr. Bernanke told the gathering central bankers and academics that the FED would be taking additional steps to prompt a stronger recovery. Mr. Bernanke’s speech was not quite a promise to take any particular immediate action, but it was a strong suggestion that the FED is ready to try further stimulus.
He described the stagnation in the job’s market as a grave concern. He also said that without previous FED actions, the recession would be in deeper and recovery slower. The options include further purchases in the markets of financial assets such as government debt with newly created money. A policy is known as quantitative easing. Critics say it could lead to sharply higher inflation.
