答案 As is vividly depicted in the cartoon, four people get involved in the medical drug industry— the manufacturer, the distributor, the hospital and the patient. As is also shown in the cartoon, the manufacturer, the distributor and the hospital are only concerned about earning money. However, the patient, the one who really consumes the drugs, has to pay high prices to get the drugs. Many factors have contributed to the high prices of drugs. On the one hand, it is true that it takes huge sums of money for the manufacturer to develop new drugs and therefore some new drugs are costly. On the other hand, for most ordinary drugs, their high prices stem to a large extent from the very greediness of the manufacturer, the distributor and the hospital. What they pursue is their own high profits rather than the benefits of the patient. Therefore, measures must be taken to deal with the situation. For one thing, manufacturers of new drugs should be supported by the government so that prices of new drugs can drop down. For another, greater efforts are needed to supervise the different stages of the drug industry to control the prices of ordinary drugs.
